The first hour of my day is typically reading time. No one is awake. It’s quiet. My mind is caffeinated and alert. It’s easier for me to focus than any other time during the day.
That’s changed since adopting Rogue.
Rogue wakes up with me every morning. She requires constant supervision. She’s energetic and can be destructive if her attention isn’t directed toward her toys.
She’s 11 weeks old as of today, which means she hasn’t finished her vaccinations. The vet told us not to take her on walks until she’s 16 weeks, after her vaccines have fully taken effect. Apparently K9 diseases can live on surfaces for weeks.
I’ll take her on morning walks after that. Maybe evening walks after 6:30pm, when her second major burst of energy begins. That’ll be a good time to start listening to audio books.
I might try to start reading before bed, but I’ve never had much luck with that. I’m usually too sleepy to focus.
I suspect this will be the routine for the next two years, until she settles into adulthood.
I’m not complaining. I love this dog and enjoy giving her my attention. But it’s a change that’ll take some getting used to.
